ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) was established in the year 2024 with an intake of 30 students. It is an integral part of the institution, focused on the interdisciplinary field that combines engineering principles with medical and biological sciences to design and develop healthcare technologies. The department offers a four-year undergraduate course (B.E.) in Biomedical Engineering, and is affiliated with Anna University, Chennai.
The curriculum and syllabi for the program are designed as per the Regulation 2021 of Anna University. The program is built upon a foundation of science, mathematics, and engineering principles, providing students with in-depth knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, biomaterials, medical imaging, and biomechanics. Students are introduced to essential biomedical engineering topics such as medical instrumentation, bioelectronics, medical robotics, and tissue engineering.
As students’ progress, advanced topics are covered, including biomedical signal processing, imaging technologies (MRI, CT scan, etc.), medical device design, bioinformatics, and the application of artificial intelligence in healthcare. The department emphasizes innovation in healthcare, with a focus on developing technologies that improve patient care and contribute to the advancement of medical science. Through hands-on training, industry collaborations, and research initiatives, the department prepares students to meet the challenges of the evolving field of biomedical engineering.
The Department of Biomedical Engineering is committed to fostering an environment of academic excellence, research, and entrepreneurship, providing students with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in both industry and academia.
